The Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (GRASAG-KNUST) has commissioned three newly furnished Research Commons at the School of Graduate Studies to provide dedicated spaces for postgraduate research and scholarly work.

The facilities, with a combined seating capacity of 108, were commissioned on September 15, 2026, as part of an initiative by the 2025/2026 GRASAG-KNUST administration to improve the research environment for postgraduate students.

The three Research Commons have been designated for postgraduate students from the College of Art and Built Environment (CABE), College of Science (CoS), and College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR).

They constitute the first phase of a six-room project intended to provide a Research Commons for each of KNUST’s six Colleges. The remaining three facilities are expected to be completed by the incoming GRASAG-KNUST administration in the next academic year.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christian Agyare, commissioned the facilities and commended the GRASAG-KNUST administration for investing in infrastructure that supports postgraduate research.

He was joined by the Director of Student Affairs, Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah; Deputy Director of Student Affairs, Professor Samuel Amos-Abanyie; and the Registrar of the School of Graduate Studies, Professor (Mrs.) Juliana Serwaa Andoh.

GRASAG-KNUST President, Mr Yussif Suleman, said the project reflects the association’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for postgraduate students to undertake research and contribute to solutions to societal challenges.

According to him, the Research Commons are intended to provide comfortable and conducive spaces where postgraduate students can work, engage in scholarly activities and advance their research.

The project forms part of the 2025/2026 GRASAG-KNUST administration’s interventions to enhance postgraduate student experience and strengthen the research environment at the University.

When the remaining three facilities are completed, postgraduate students across all six Colleges will have access to dedicated Research Commons under the initiative.
